We are down safely from the Mountain. I sit here writing this post on the porch of the Whittaker cafe, lounging in an Adirondak chair enjoying a mocha under the blue sky and gentle cool breeze. I did not have good Internet service on the Mountain to post updates. Plus, Apple software isn't so compatible with Google Blogger. Which is why I haven't posted pictures yet. I will post a full account of our climb with cool pictures when I get back to my laptop at home.
Now I have something to announce...(trumpet music here)... Our team SUMMITED successfully and made it safe down off the mountain. We woke at 10 pm Tuesday night, started climbing by 11:30, reached the summit crater (of the volcano) at 6:45 am Wednesday morning and made the final summit at 7:30 am. We left the summit around 8:30 am and returned to Camp Muir by 12:20 pm. It was a long night/day of physical work. The Disappointment Cleaver was intense and more demanding than I expected. Getting back to camp we melted snow for water and eating. We packed up and headed down to paradise at 3:09, arriving at 5:19 pm. We were up for a total of 24 hrs, 41 minutes Tuesday night to Wednesday night! Needless to say we all slept very well last night.
The climb was epic from start to finish. The story and memories are incredible and will be told soon. We met many people including most from Colorado. The Colorado flag dominated Camp Muir. Way to represent our beautiful state on this AWESOME mountain.
Team Cinco Hombres (that's the name we gave ourselves) is all safe and healthy, minus sore muscles, bruises and blisters. We are in relaxation/ lazy mode. It is time to say good by to this place we will treasure for the rest of our lives. Our long time objective goal has been met and now it is time to think about what will be next. Team Cinco Hombres will stick together! More to come...
Cuz - That is freaking amazing. Congratulations on a remarkable accomplishment.
